~~Ready Room~~
Rog entered the Ready Room with a PADD containing various notes. He was
anxious to find this BOP and get out of the Badlands. Rog wanted to find this
ships' crew so he could finally see what his enemy looked like. It would be a
big coup for the Meridian if they could capture this BOP and or take some
prisoners.
Ian had already been on his way to the bridge to check the security station.
he wanted to ensure that all the electronics were communicating properly if
they found themselves in a fire fight with the BOP. Instead of going to the
security station he went straight to the Ready Room door and it automatically
slid open. "Captain," he said as he entered and found his seat.
T'Paz entered a minute after Fraiser. She was just finishing her report to
the high council when the call for a meeting interrupted her. With a nod she
sat down in her chair. It seemed strange that they were going straight to
another mission. Humans usually constantly required the need for relaxation.
Vulcans, of course, didn't.
Timo strolled in and nodded to everyone.
Zoe quietly snuck in just in time.
Rog nodded to each of his officers as they arrived. He said,"As you are
aware from my brief announcement before the award ceremony, we are to leave on a
new mission shortly. We are to head into the Badlands and explore an
abandoned Romulan BOP. While we explore this ship, we are to gather as much
information about the Rommies and their BOP as we can. Thoughts people."
"Respectfully sar... Who says it's abandoned?" Ian spoke up with a concerned
tone. After all the last time they went on board an abandoned vessel the
accompanying MACO team had losses. "Just who discovered it oot thahr?" Rog repl
ied,"Good questions Ian. Starfleet says it's abandoned. As for who discovered
it, I'm not at liberty to say at the moment."
Rog replied,"Good questions Ian. Starfleet says it's abandoned. As for who
discovered it, I'm not at liberty to say at the moment."
Zoe sat back and listened. She rarely had much to offer during tactical
briefings. Generally all she had to worry about was keeping everyone in contact.
"Are ve expected to figure out how to run de ting if ve find it?" Timo
asked. "I mean, if it's abandoned, den it's probably broken. If it's broken, I
know who's expected to fix it and I'll be honest, Captain, my guys aren't
miracle vorkers. Vasn't de main reason ve managed to sail dat Klingon bird vas
because you could manage to read a bit of Klingon? I haven't had de chance to
even look at a Vulcan ship yet. Ve don't know anyting about dese Romulan guys
except dat ve can plug our computers in and download data. Unless dey just
rigged dat up as part of de hoodvinking on dat spacestation."
Rog replied,"Our orders are to gather as much information as possible. So,
as far as running it goes, you have no worries Timo. Now if we did happen to
run across an instruction manual that told us how to run the thing, I'm sure
Starfleet would love having a captured bird. I know the fellows at R&D would
at any rate. However, if we can download as much information from their
computers as we can, I'll be satisfied. Any other thoughts or questions?"
"Um Sir. I could be totally off base here but couldn't we tow it out with
the grappler?", she asked then immediately realized she may have just stepped
on Timo's toes.
Rog smiled and replied,"Good thinking Zoe. I suppose it might depend on how
much it weighs and what damage it may have. Timo, would towing it with
grapplers be possible?"
The CEO scratched the back of his head as the gears turned inside his mind.
"Dunno. Don't tink ve've ever tried it before. I don't see vhy not, but ve'd
have to take a vhile vorking up to speed. It's gonna have a heckuva a lot
more inertia dann a pod.
"I von't be able to say about varp speed vhile towing, eider. I'll have to
look over de calculations. It may take a full varp five varp field to cover
two ships. Unless de d Vulcans have some sort of techno trick dey haven't told
us about yet..." Timo cast a sideways glance at T'Paz.
In response, T'Paz gave Timo a glance that could have frozen the glass of
water in front of the CEO. "We still have no idea why it was abandoned, and it
rare that the Romulans would leave a vessel floating in space. I recommend a
full scan for any other ships in the area, and a scan of the Bird of Prey for
toxins or any hazardous environments."
Rog nodded and said,"Sound precautions Sub-Commander. However, I don't
believe you answered Timo's question. Do the Vulcans have a way of towing a vessel
other than the grapplers that we use?" He suspected that they did and that
T'Paz would lie to protect whatever it was that the Vulcans used. Still, he
had to ask anyway.
Ian quickly interjected before T'Paz could answer, "Sar... Will T'Paz be
head'n up tha away team fahr tha mission since tha Vulcans knoow aloot aboot tha
Romulans an' can moost likely read thahr write'n?" He caught on to the
Captain's question and thought that if she was deep into the mission that she
would use every means possible at her disposal... at least that would be the
logical thing to do he thought.
Rog replied,"Perhaps Ian. Well Sub-Commander?"
T'Paz was aware of everyone looking at her and choose her next words
carefully. "Any such technology could not be duplicated on board the Meridian. If
you wish to use Vulcan technology, you would need a Vulcan vessel to assist
with the towing process." Consider how the last mission ended, T'Paz doubted
that would be likely. "As for the Romulan vessel, having me there would be a
logical choice. Although several words are different between Romulan and Vulcan,
the two languages are very similar."
Rog thought, at last we're getting somewhere. He said,"The two languages are
similar? Why is that Sub-Commander? Are the Vulcans and Romulans related in
some way?"
T'Paz blinked, then gave him an icy look. "Of course not-it is simply a
coincidence. In your Earth history there have been many alien languages
translated into English because of certain similarities."
Rog gave a brief smile and said,"Of course Sub-Commander. If no one has any
other concerns at this time, may I suggest that we adjourn the meeting and
get going?" Seeing no further need for discussion, Rog stood and dismissed the
meeting.
