Walking back into her office, Suzanna got herself a mug of tea from
resequencer. A light earl grey, British style, with a dash of milk and
two sweetners. Then she sat down and requested a channel to be opened to
the Challenger. That would take a few minutes, but being Starfleet
Commander had its advantages, the fastest and most secure connections
were available through the Starfleet HQ Comm system. She sipped her tea
while she waited. This late in the evening it was quiet in the building,
and it should help speed up the setting up of the channel.
~~ Challenger, Bridge ~~
"Sir we're receiving a message from Starfleet Command." The
Communications Tech said to Lt Commander Cole.
Corad thought for a second about what could be the reason for such a
late call, but shrugged it off. "On screen," He said as he sat up
straight in the command chair. "Admiral Batenburg." Corad said as he
recognized the woman that appeared on screen.
"Commander Cole," Suzanna smiled and greeted the CO of the Challenger.
"How are things going?"
"We're getting ready to meet up with Andorian ambassador Smarv on our
way to Vulcan. It's a simple babysitting run. What can I do for you
Admiral? Corad said doubting the Admiral called just for a chat.
"Take the calm, Commander, before you know it, there is a storm and you
wish it were calm," Suzanna responded. "I received a datapad with a lot
of information on it, Commander. About Challenger's recent missions and
about you."
Corad nodded, the Admiral was right, but when he heard that she had
received a datapad about the Challenger and him, he couldn't help but
get a slightly puzzled look on his face. 'About us, I hope nothing bad?'
He thought. "I'm guessing it was a favourable report, unless this is a
return to port call then it probably wasn't." Corad said with a smile.
"It was very favourable in fact." Suzanna replied. "The Challenger and
its Commander and crew have done an excellent job exploring and
representing Earth out in Deep Space. As a result, I would like to
bestow up on you and the crew the Starfleet Superior Unit Award to
recognise all the hard work carried out by all of you."
Corad was taken back for a moment, "Thank you Admiral. Though I must say
we're just doing what we know needs done. On behalf of the crew I extend
our thanks, and I hope we continue to show as a great example of what
Starfleet crews are capable of."
"Besides of that, Commander, I am hereby promoting you to the rank of
full Commander with all the rights, privileges and hard work associated
with that rank." Suzanna said.
Corad was in the middle of adjusting in the command chair when he heard
Suzanna promoting him and slipped hitting the armrest into his side. As
he sat back up he was speechless. "Admiral … Thank you. Does this also
mean the Lt Wash is no longer the acting executive officer?" He asked
still in a little shock.
"As Commanding Officer, the choice of Executive Officer is yours. If you
are happy with Lieutenant Wash's performance, then feel free to confirm
it." Suzanna smiled at Cole and sat back in her chair. "Congratulations
to you and your crew, Commander, and may the Great Bird of the Galaxy
have mercy on your soul." Suzanna said. "Batenburg out."
