   Tal made sure they had fully cloaked before heading back home  to Romulus. 
They had heard of Bardeck's failure, although by the Orion's  jubilant 
expression, he clearly had not heard the news. So it was up to him and  Barel to 
break the bad news.
 
  The two Romulan officers approached Bardeck. Bardeck said,"Hello  
gentlemen. Well I imagine now that Capt. Finney and the others are dead or  dying. You 
must be very happy. When will my family be released?"
 
Alidar smiled an evil sort of smile. He replied,"Released? We only reward  
agents who are successful, not failures like you Mr. Bardeck."
 
Bardeck was taken aback and said,"What do you mean Barel? I poisoned the  
ambassador and the Meridian's senior staff officers."
 
Alidar held up his hand and answered,"Yes,yes we know you did. However,  
there's just one problem, they didn't die. The Vulcans apparently had an  antidote 
to the poison. So, you failed." He signaled for the guards to take away  poor 
Bardeck. He said,"Dispose of this piece of trash."
 
  Bardeck was pleading now. He said,"You can't blame me that they  didn't 
die. How was I to know about the antidote? What about my wife?"
 
  Alidar responded,"She will join you in your tragic airlock  accident."
 
  Bardeck said,"No please spare her. What about my daughters, Tara and  
Yamilla? What will you do to them?"
 
Alidar laughed and said,"That's the wrong question Bardeck. The correct  
question is, what won't we do with them?"
 
Bardeck was screaming and begging by now. 
 
A short time after the Toravek was able to safely de-cloak once more, Tal  
received word that Bardeck and his wife Norai, had a tragic airlock accident. He 
 shook his head, Tal could only hope that he'd get to face the Meridian in 
combat  sometime soon.
