// New Darwin - En-route to landing pad \\

The shuttle was easily spotted overhead as the buggy carrying Kareem
Morotai and Jamie Haydon sped towards the landing pad area. They would
arrive just a few minutes after landing which would give Cmdr
Ji-Ribalda a few moments to acclimatize himself with being on the
surface. They both sat in the back whilst Crewman Davis drove. Kareem
noticed that the seats were more comfortable in the back than the
front.

"What do you think of the buggy?" he asked Jamie with a smile.

"It is well made." Jamie replied.  "Dere are a few dings that could be
added for modifications, but other wise it is very good."

"Modifications, tell me more Lt..." Kareem raised an curious eyebrow.

"Head lights. Unless you do not want to use it in de dark," Jamie
smiled.  "A roof dat can be opened or closed and stored away. It make
it what we call a convertible.  We could even sup up the engine, give
it a bit more power."

"I knew I could rely on you Jamie, a good engineer always thinks
outside the box eh?" Kareem grinned. "Headlights will be VERY useful
in the dark, I have to agree. I'll have a word with the mechanics
team".

// Landing Pad \\

The buggy came to a halt outside a small hut on the edge of the
landing bay which itself was little more than just a block of
concrete. Kareem climbed down with Lt Haydon in tow. The shuttle was
grounded about 10 meters away and a number of Starfleet dressed men
and women were walking around the landing bay area, some unloading
cases. A few Daliwakan's were also on hand dealing with another group
of arrivals. Heading toward the main group Kareem found the future
academy commandant.

"Greetings Cmdr Ji-Ribalda. I am Kareem Morotai. Welcome to New Darwin
Colony!" he said and extended his hand in friendship to the officer.
The warm sun and light breeze made for a pleasant and refreshing
atmosphere.

"Thank you Commander." Ji-Ribalda returned the handshake with his own firm grip.

"Allow me to introduce our Colony development officer Lt Jamie
Haydon." Kareem motioned towards Jamie. He hoped the two of them would
see eye-to-eye about the academy progress else it could cause
problems.

"Lieutenant." Ahkmed nodded in greeting, but said nothing else,
preferring to let the others direct the conversation.  He tended to be
'get-to-the-point' almost to a fault, and didn't need to offend anyone
too quickly.

"It is a pleasure to meet you Commander." Jamie replied.

"Did you have a safe trip sir?" Kareem asked.

"I've been living on Jupiter Station for so many years, I was more
than comfortable with the endless black. It may be retuning to
planet-bound life may prove to be the adjustment. Yet, I haven't seen
a more beautiful place to try. The view during the descent was
magnificent." Inwardly Ji-Ribalda was very pleased with Starfleet's
decision to use New Darwin as a location for the next expansion of the
Academy. Although, in the back of his mind he knew he wasn't here for
sight-seeing.

"Yes, we are very proud of this place and our progress so far. I am
sure you will soon settle into the way of life here, somewhat
different than that of a starship or a starbase I imagine. You may
find you never want to leave" Kareem smiled, joking slightly.

That made Ahkmed smile, and he tried to recall the last time he wanted
something. Sure, he had needs, but work was usually so
all-encompassing, there was never really time for what he wanted. His
long back-log of vacation time proved as much.

Jamie could understand the Commander's comment about reajustment.  She
having spent most of her Starfleet career in at the Ship yards. "As
some who has spent much time in space as well, I tell you Commander it
will be very easy to like what you see of dis planet."

"Jamie has been coming up with some possible sites for the campus."
Kareem prompted the discussion. "I am sure together you can agree the
best place to begin. I am due to meet with Daliwakans in the coming
days to get a fuller picture of training needs too"

"I would like to see the colony infrastructure first." Ahkmed
explained. "And then we can go from there."

"I would be happy show you what we have completed so far sir," Jamie replied.

"The sooner the better.", Ahkmed agreed.

"I will leave you in Lt Haydon's capable hands" Kareem waved them off.
Haydon and Ji-Ribalda said goodbye to Morotai, and then left.

A few minutes later after greeting a few others Kareem walked down
from the landing padds and noticed with slight dismay they had taken
the buggy. Looking around he saw no others options available he
shrugged and reverted to the traditional Daliwakan method of travel,
walking.
