 <Tala Research Facility, Galorndon Core>

Click-clap, click-clap.

The ornate rolu-marble columns of the atrium seemed to amplify the sharp
snap of the Senator's boots as she marched toward Commander Chulak.

Chulak stood like a statue just off the center of the hall, flanked by more
than a dozen subordinates and scientists, watching Taris blow through like a
tornado. The Commander was not what most expected when one thought of a
powerful Romulan military leader.

He was small, that was the first thing most said about Chulak, he stood just
under five feet and was thin as a rail. It appeared that a strong wind would
toss him about like a leaf. That he had risen so high and so quickly, being
only 55 years old, show there was far more to his character.

"Jolan'tru Senator," Chulak said as the much taller woman stopped a few
meters short.

"You said phase two was ready," Taris continued walking past the commander
toward the labs, "have you begun?"

"We have been examining the specimens," Chulak followed, keeping up well
with the Senator, "and the ship... a simple design. We have sent a distress
call using the Sulaco's communication's equipment, but we have not targeted
any ship as yet."

"What are you waiting for?" Taris asked pushing through as a set of double
doors slid smoothly open.

"We thought you would appreciate choosing which NX we target... Meridian and
Yorktown are in range."

Taris stopped in front of a small door and looked through a small window. A
group of green clad surgeons were working around a long table, a pair of
pail pink legs just visible, twitching, at the far edge.

"Simple creatures," Chulak said flatly, "anatomically simple, but very
resistant... this one has survived, to a degree, for twelve hours..."

"Do we really need to know that?" Taris said looking at the small Romulan
with a sideways glance.

"No," Chulak continued still looking at the operating table, "would you like
to choose?" he continued holding a small pad to the Senator.

Taris rolled her eyes and looked at the two ship's names, "Meridian is at
Forrest... Yorktown just left Andoria..."

"Waiting for Meridian would add two or perhaps three weeks to the time
table," Chulak began, "Yorktown seems to have had a hand in putting down the
Coup on Andoria..."

"Then Yorktown it is," Taris said handing the pad back to Chulak, "I do not
wish to remain her long."

"We will send the distress signal at once," Chulak said pointing to one of
his scientists, "now, Senator, the colonist of Galorndon Core have prepared
a reception for you."

"You told them I was coming?" Taris asked sharply.

"Of course," Chulak replied mildly, "they are all on my staff or subjects."

"And what of the Tal Shiar?"

"We regularly send false reports out to keep them occupied..."
