Elizabeth burst from the car and bolted up the front path to her parent's
home.



A heavy snow fall had buried western Ohio in almost a foot of snow.
Elizabeth bound through the drifts with practiced easy reaching the front
porch in four careful steps. She pushed through the door and called out,
"Mom!"



She shed her coat and headed for the kitchen.



"Liz?" Mary Morrison stepped into the hall, "What's wrong, why aren't you at
work?"



"You haven't seen it…?" Elizabeth responded breathlessly, she turned to the
living room, "Viewscreen… SSN."



*"…for those of you who are just now joining us, the ESS Yorktown is missing
in action. With a special report we have our Science Editor Robert Herbert."

*"Thank you Jessica, we have reports that the ESS Yorktown, NX-05 is missing
and presumed destroyed. A high level source within Starfleet has confirmed
that contact with the ship was lost more than a week ago, just after the
ship changed course to investigate a distress call from Galorndon Core."*

*"Now, we have new evidence that this small star system just half a light
year from Romulan space has been struck by a major stellar event."*

*"Leaked images from the Big Subspace Telescope in Tycho City, shown here,
clearly show a major rift in space in orbit of Galorndon Core… it is
inconceivable that any starship could have survived such an event…"*
