-- Luddington Sickbay --

The lights flickered off and on, causing everyone in sickbay to still
momentarily. But this was nothing to hinder the knowledge that they had
survived, after all, the Warbird had tried to kill them. When consciousness
had returned to the bridge crew, Captain Michaels had been taken to sickbay.
There he had been given a strong pain killer and when it had finally kicked
in, Dr Butterworth had set the break in his left leg.

Even with the drugs, there had been a moment or two when Michaels thought
that he might just pass out from the pain. As the doc finished the sweeps
with the scanner over his leg. He asked, "How's it look doc?"

"Not as bad as I first thought. " Doc smiled. "The break is clean and there
are no bone shards. I want you off your feet. If you stay off them, you
should heal up nicely." Michaels opened his mouth to comment and Doc had a
good idea that it would be, that it currently wasn't an option, but
Butterworth raised a hand to cut him short. "You are going to stay off it
till I say otherwise. Is that understood Captain?"

"Yes Doctor Butterworth." Michaels said with a glare. He watched the doctor
turn to gather the final supplies needed and glared hard enough to, if
possible, burn whole in the man's back. It was then that James Finney the
luddington's CEO walked in.

"Captain, good to see you with us. We received the injectors from the
Yorktown; you were right, and installed them about fifthteen minutes ago. "

"Told you that little lady owed me a favor or two."

"Well sir, Yorktown won't have to drag us back. We have warp one, but that
is about it. We are going to need a total over--"

"Captain!" If the sickbay door could have been slammed it would have, as
Commander MacDonald came barging in. "I want to lodge a complaint."

"You do," Michaels replied unfazed by Paul's outburst.

"Yes, against whoever ordered the exploding consoles." He replied.

"And why is that?"

"Because they all EXPLODED. No targeting, no weapons control, no manual
back-up, no haul polarization. Nothing but an explodified mess!"

"Ah. Well, you know, I did put in an order for the non-exploding consoles.
But, as it turns out... well, they're a luxury item, and Starfleet didn't
want to waste the resources putting luxury item on a ship as small as the
Luddington."

MacDonald blinked and then laughed as the joke registered. "Well I guess
you'll just have to get promoted to a bigger ship and looks like retro
targeting practice for armoury, sir."
