[ Yorktown, Bridge ]

Having found it only moments before, Rece Morgan fingered the rip in her
uniform sleeve. She let out a pent up breath over the brand new uniform; and
waited. What she waited for was Fleet Captain Hawke to get on the comm.
She knew that communication only went so fast but the only reason for this
delay was the human input.

"This is Hawke," came the reply over audio. "Our comms took a little
beating so I can't see you, but I can hear you fine." An audible sigh.
"Morgan, I thought we lost you in that explosion. What /was/ that?"

Rece's focus jumped from her thoughts to that of the call when she heard
Hawke on the other end. "Well Sir..." It had been a close call. "That's
what's left of the other supersaber and some fighters."

"More than /some/," Hawke guffawed. "I think that was the /rest/ of them.
Republic is chasing down the last of the raiders trying to maneuver into a
position to warp out. But if you're good to go, I'll recall her and we'll
warp out ourselves to link up with the other Groups."

"We've got a nacelle issue and we'll need a few minutes." Rece commented.
They had been venting plasma and she hadn't heard back from engineering yet.

"Roger that, Morgan," Hawke said in a more official tone. "But if you don't
think Yorktown is up for it by the time Republic returns, we'll leave you
here to get back in shape. What with the Naussicaans getting away from here
as fast as they can, and the Klingons and Romulans busy elsewhere, it's
probably the safest place."

It maybe the safest place Morgan thought but the damage they had taken was
not as major as the loss of the Intrepid. "I'm sure we'll be ready sir."

"Very good, Captain," Hawke said. There was a pause. "I'd almost hate to
leave Intrepid here by herself, though." It was a quiet comment, a spoken
thought more than a statement.

If they left the ship, it could be destroyed or stolen but one thing it
would not be; was forgotten. "I'm sure we all feel the same way sir. But
would her crew want someone to stay for an empty ship?"

"Captain Vaughn," Hawke replied, "would want us to go take out a few more
enemy ships. One for each of his crew, I would think, but I'm sure the rest
of the fleet has already ruined our chances of that. However, I should
probably destroy her so she doesn't fall into enemy hands." Another pause.
"I just don't think I can bring myself to do that"

"Well sir... I also think Captain Vaughn would want us to make sure that
what happened to them, doesn't happen to any of the rest of the fleet." Rece
commented.

"Him and me, both, Morgan." There was a chirp from the comms system, then
Hawke said, "Standby, Yorktown." Another chirp. "This is Hawke."

"All Naussicaans are destroyed, Sir," announced Henry. "Republic is
rejoining Delta Group."

"Roger that, Republic. Damage report?"

"Damage?" Henry asked. "These heavy cruisers are built like a brick
outhouse. All I need are a few more torpedoes and I'll knock out the
Romulan homeworld by lunch tomorrow."

Hawke didn't remind Henry of the caliber of enemy ships, or deficit thereof,
that they'd been fighting. But then again, the sheer /number/ of smaller
ships was enough to give them all a run for their money. "I'll submit your
plan to Starfleet Command at the next available opportunity, Captain Henry,
but first let's finish our orders. Delta Group," he announced so as to
include Morgan again, "five minutes, then we warp at best possible speed to
Jupiter's Ghost."

"Aye," Morgan responded.

"Aye, Shenandoah," Henry confirmed. "Five minutes."

Nodding, Morgan brushed a errant curl out of her face. She made the cut off
sign to the Vulcan sitting at the comm station. Once the signal had been
closed, she turned to face the rest of Yorktown's bridge staff. "You heard
the Fleet Captain. We've got five minutes, let's get this lady ready to
move out."
