-- Meridian Bridge --
The battlefield had turned into utter chaos. Bits of debris and sparking
husks of ships or parts of ships floated everywhere.
In one corner of Meridian's view screen, a Romulan BOP could be seen
attacking ESS Madrid at the back of the pack of ships. The Venus class vessel
unloaded with all of her plasma cannons and a modest barrage of torpedoes,
but most shots were snuffed out by floating hunks of hull plating. The
Romulans fired at the already damaged vessel like a school of piranha until she
was floating dead in the water.
A second ship was putting the finishing touches on ESS Venus. She fared
slightly better than her sister ship, taking down the enemies forward shields
before she was crippled. But still, the rear of the beta group defenses
was now open.
Rog could see that hi s group wasn't fairing too well. "Ian, get those
BOPs. We have to stop them from breaking up Beta group."
One of the Romulan ships repositioned themselves and began firing on
Meridian from behind. A trio of Klingon Birds of Prey had apparently decided
enough was enough, regrouped, and initiated a charge directly into the heart
of Alpha group.
The Klingons flew in a tight formation, covering their already weakened
areas to maximize their shielding. A wave of debris bounced around their
deflectors and rattled off the upper hull as their engines flared at full force
in a wedge maneuver intended to split the Earth ships apart. United, the
group of ships were able to cover each other more effectively. Isolated,
they would make much easier targets for the more powerful alien vessels.
"I assume you'd like a shot at their ventral weapons, Commander?" Carson
said, tilting his head towards tactical while keeping his eyes on the
screen. He rolled the ship over, giving Meridian a nice view of the Klingon's
underside. Checking his sensors, Carson saw that the other ships in his group
were tightening their formation, despite the oncoming warships.
Rog looked over in Redlin's direction. "Comm. Tell our guys to pass as
close as possible to the Klingons. Regroup immediately once we're past."
Redlin replied, "Aye sir."
Just as they started to recover from the burst of excitement, there was a
sudden, brilliant blast of blue light on the viewscreen. The ball of white
hot flame ballooned out from its center point, the dim silhouette of a
Romulan War Bird taking the brunt of the destruction near the point of
detonation. A pair ships split away to escape the onslaught, only to be caught in a
series of subsequent bursts so thunderous that they could almost be felt
in the deck plating on Meridian's bridge.
Rog smiled at the unexpected destruction of the Rommie BOP's. He said,
"Redlin, find out what just destroyed those BOP's and how we can get some of
those weapons."
"Aye sir." Redlin began putting the necessary calls out.
