"Kalevah! Kalevah, come quick! You're missing it!"

He had just been passing through the foyer when he heard his name being
called out. He looked up from the duty schedule on his padd to find the
hospital staff and patients alike gathered around the information display
console at the receptionists' desk. The screen was filled with an image of
Jonathan Archer standing at a podium giving a speech to an audience of all
species in the Coalition surrounding him.

"What is happening?" he asked as he stepped up for a closer look.

Nurse Florence started to explain. "It's a video of the founding ceremony in
San Francisco. Communications received the feed on subspace just a few hours
ago-"

"Ssssh!" one of the other nurses hissed.

"...received the feed a few hours ago and Lieutenant Hickey forwarded it
here," she finished in a whisper.

"What it is meaning?" Kalevah whispered back.

"The war with the Romulans is over. All the worlds of the Coalition are
uniting into a new United Federation of Planets."

"So all planets will be being together now?"

"That's what they're saying. All species working together for a common goal,
just like the humans and dali have been."

"Is good thing. Vai?"

Florence smiled back. "Yes, Kalevah. It is a very good thing."

They stopped speaking to turn and listen to the speech.

"Back to the original question: are we alone? Our generation is
privileged to know that the answer is unequivocally /no/, we are /not/
alone. And with the other races of the Milky Way Galaxy and our Alpha
Quadrant allies, we are all explorers -- driven to know what is over

The crowd began to murmur, excitedly, the volume rising as the seconds
ticked by.

Cheers now, a crashing wave of cheers that, it was discovered later,
could be heard miles away from the Cochrane Arena.
