~~Meridian, Main Engineering ~~
In a strange way, the loss of gravity was making Yue feel at home. It had
taken her the better part of her academy years to get used to a full 1.0 G
of gravity, which the old fashioned grav generators had never provided on
her family's cargo ships. She found herself floating along from station to
station, pulling and pushing herself along by various designed and impromptu
handholds throughout the bay.
"Eversam reports it will be at least ten minutes to bring the grav
generator back online," Ensign Michaels told her as she came by for an update.
Yue nodded. "And life support?"
"We're keeping up, by and large, but oxygen levels are starting to fall on
C-deck due to the filtration system going down in the hull breach."
"Is DT on it yet?"
"They're busy with the grav generator and EPS grid. The chief said some
help would be nice."
Yue nodded grimly. The news about Corbett had filtered down to the heart
of the ship along with other reports. "I'll go take a look. It will be
better than sitting here waiting and just telling other people what to do for a
change."
~~ C-deck ~~
Five minutes later she was suited up and exploring the evacuated
compartments. Fortunately, the damage looked like it could have been worse. The
breach started as a weakened hole, probably only a centimeter or so in diameter
that had been ripped wider by the rapidly escaping gasses in the room,
which was only an engineering access point anyway. ++ Looks like one panel
should be enough, ++ she said to the machinst's mate who had come along with
her.
++ Right. I'll order one right up. ++
Yue turned and looked at the door to the filtration turbine access point,
which happened to be shut. She walked over and tried to open it, but felt a
strong resistance on the handle.
++ Was it jammed in the explosion? ++
++ Or it's actually pressurized on the other side. Are we sure this whole
section is down? ++
++ Down or the sensors are malfunctioning, ++ the rating replied. ++ You
don't think...? ++
++ You focus on the hull in here. I'll go check the filtration access
B-deck. ++

++ ... Doctor!! ... Doctor!! ... ++
The voice, he knew that voice. It took all his will to concentrate, he was
so tired and so cold, but that voice. It was irritating and beautiful all
at the same time. He drifted again, but the voice it came back it was loud
and angry. The words, he didn’t understand the words, but the tone was
unmistakable. It was a female voice that much he could grasp.
++ ... medical team ... Doctor!! ... ++
He was in agony; every part of him ached and felt as if it was on fire.
The voice it was yelling at him telling him to open his eyes. The pain
threatened to overwhelm him, but he was able to open his left eye only a little,
but it was enough to see her. She was in some kind of suit, but the voice
he knew it and knew it was her.
Yue thought she was seeing a ghost or zombie coming to life in her arms as
she pulled his "corpse" from the turbine shaft. She had had the misfortune
of seeing what the vacuum of space did to a human body on several
occasions, but never before seen someone take what Stile had just endured and live.
The entire surface of his exposed skin was purple from the blood having
been drawn to the surface. His eyes were blood red like some kind of an
alien, the pupils wide and dilated.
But despite it all, he was moving. It was mostly just the rolling of his
head, the subtle movement of extremities, but he was moving. ++ Corbett, you
stubborn wángbādán... ++
“What no kiss!” Corbett uttered then fell into blackness.
++ Wang to medical. Corpsmen to engineering access B 4-114, stat, and prep
your hydrobaric chamber. Doctor Corbett isn't dead yet. ++
