They were interrupted by the chirp of the communicator. ++ Hickey to away
team. Hickey to Away team. ++
"Come in Lieutenant," Carter answered.
++ We just heard a message from the Constitution. A MACO team is on the
ground and has just retaken control of the Command Center. The Klingons are
on the run! ++
There was a brief moment of surprise, relief, and celebration. It was short
lived, though. as they realized that the job was not quite finished. "Ok.
Let's finish the job and save our people," Kalevah stated. The doors were
soon opened, and the team slipped into the quite back passageways of the
infirmary to locate friend and foe...

As if on cue, Mane reappeared from her scouting mission and motioned for
them to come forward. She looked at Kalli', addressing her for the first
time. "Where would they be holding them?"
Kalli¹ wanted to shrug, but instead knit her brows and knelt to draw a
diagram on the floor. ³The inside of this building is shaped like a T,² she
explained. ³We are here,² she pointed to the tip of the left branch of the
crossbar. ³Here, at the crossing, is a large common room, on this side,
where we are. Easy to guard all prisoners in that room; no corners to hide
in. But around the outside of that room is a corridor on both sides going
down the big main hallway. I¹m betting the Klingons are not expecting us to
steal the prisoners, but are just guarding the prisoners to prevent
misbehavior. With all the mess of their ships being destroyed, they will not
have so many guards. Like Varre¹ said, they will be preparing for assault
from whoever destroyed their ships. Follow this hallway to the back entrance
to the common room. The less the Klingons know we are here the better, but
if we see one, we should kill it. Do not leave them to get up and shoot us
in the back,² she advised with surprising coldness.
Mane nodded, ignoring Kalli's tone. "Alright then, let's go."
The group moved out down the corridor and through the door at the end. It
opened into another long hallway which led towards the front of the
building.
Kalli¹ tapped Mane¹s shoulder and pointed to a double wooden door. ³That
door goes into the common room,² she mouthed. She held up a finger to
indicate Mane should wait. In silent feet, the dark haired Dali ran forward
to the doors and checked. Indeed, they were locked. She tapped a code into
the door panel control and the light on the panel glowed green. Once
unlocked, Kalli¹ returned to the others.
"This is it." The redhead said, looking over the small group armed with
what little weaponry they had been able to scrape together. "When we get to
the end of the corridor, Carter, you toss in one of your gas bombs. The
rest of you follow me in and fan out along the walls." A vicious smile
crossed her lips as she ran down the battle plan. "Take as many of them
down as you can. If you get into trouble, call out and if anybody is free,
they'll move to back you up. Are we understood?"
The group nodded almost in unison. "Let's go."
With the retreat unlocked, they padded down the corridor for a few meters
and around the corner into the open area outside the common room. A quick
glance showed only two guards standing at the entrance. One of the men was
speaking to someone else inside the room. As the rescuers watched, after a
few nods and a short conversation in Klingon, he smiled evilly, then
motioned for the others to come closer. They did so. There was a hurried
explanation, drawing nods from the rest of the Klingons. There was a flurry
of disturbance from inside the room, and a Klingon emerged, dragging a
Daliwakan woman by the hair. He tossed her roughly to the floor. " poH'oH
Dung." He said smiling. He drew his disruptor from his belt and leveled it
at the frightened woman.
"NOW!" Mane screamed. Carter reached into his bag and tossed one of the
glass canisters into the room. It shattered at the feet of the Klingons,
suddenly producing a thick yellow smoke which began to envelope them.
"Move out!" The Amazon said as she drew her weapon and lept into the fray.
A confused, frightened shout went up from Klingons and prisoners alike as
the rest of the assault group followed suit. Carter's knockout gas had
quickly overwhelmed the small group of Klingons and most of them dropped to
the floor with a satisfying thud. Mane dropped to a knee and fired at one
lone Klingon, catching him squarely in the chest, sending him toppling
back.
Seeing the assault, the prisoners rose up, delighted to see Kalli¹ Annadar
who motioned them all toward the back door of the room, away from the
knockout gas. After only a few seconds, the battle was over. All the alien
aggressors lay either dead or unconscious.
"Fan out." Mane said as she removed a Klingon curved two handed sword from
it's former owner. "There could be more. Sweep the rest of the building and
stay alert." Then she moved back off down the corridor.
Carter flipped open his communicator. "This is Austin to Hickey.
Lieutenant, we have reclaimed the infirmary."
"Come on." He said to Kalli'. "We need to open some windows to vent the
rest of the gas, or we'll be lying next to the Klingons in a few seconds."
³I will lead the people out of the back, through the tunnels. Do not leave
them alive,² she counseled.
