"Captain's Starlog,
The Romulan shipyard in the Xantia system has been completely destroyed.
Long range sensor scans reveal debris and no sign of enemy activity. We've
tracked several surviving Romulan ships leaving the sector but they appear
to be retreating in the direction of Romulan space and are now out of sensor
range."
Ethan instinctively felt the ache in the back of his neck as he stopped the
recording. When the hull breached on the Oregonian the force jarred his neck
uncomfortably and caused some muscle damage. Sickbay had prescribed some
pain killers, he resisted any further analysis until they dealt with the
more serious cases. He was glad to be back on the ship again, still alive
after one of the biggest challenges of his career, but had a lot of catching
up to do with ship and crew status. And the danger was not completely
passed.
He opened a ship wide channel.
"Crew of the Intrepid, this is Commander Armstrong. Reports coming in from
Starfleet Command indicate Romulan and Coalition forces are massing in
battle in the Cheron system. In light of this I have ordered a course which
takes us back to Earth. We may be a week away, but however this incident
turns out support will be needed in the aftermath. Though remote from the
situation we will stand with our friends in it's outcome. The Yorktown also
plans to return home and so we continue to journey side-by-side for a while
longer at best speed."
"I want to take this moment to congratulate you all on the success of our
mission in the Xantia system. You and the crew of the Yorktown
have performed admirably. I plan to commend you all on the record and review
crew performance, but before that is possible we must face up to knowing the
danger has not yet gone. To prepare ourselves as best we can for what may
lay ahead."
"All departments report in with the hour. Find out how badly we've been hit,
what repairs can be made and how we can prepare for further engagements. I
will be monitoring Command channels for updates on Cheron. Keep up the good
work everyone! Armstrong out."
He returned to looking at his desk-based computer panel with concern as he
monitored the events unfolding light years away and awaited the status
reports from around the ship.
