was the thought that ran through Rece's <br>mind as she entered the late
Admiral Batenburg's office. She had <br>expected to be considered for the
promotion to Fleet Operations, <br>not to be handed the job out of the blue!<br><br>"Okay,
calm down, Rece. Relax, don't panic, think pleasant thoughts," <br>she
muttered, almost like a mantra. Very shortly, however, her mind <br>became
preoccupied as she thought about the strange look of misery <br>from Rear
Admiral Garroway. Being responsible for saving Earth was <br>certainly a
heavy burden, and now it was on her too. <br><br>As she entered the office, she stared at the mountain of paperwork <br>that was on the desk. For the next hour she went over each
 report <br>carefully. And the more she read, the more her heart sank. <br><br>So
far they were holding their own against the Romulans...barely<br>However if the Romulans, Naussicans, and Klingons pooled their <br>resources, Earth
could easily be wiped out. The Vulcans had offered <br>some aid, but would
it be enough? And given the differences between <br>their two people, how
far could the Vulcans be counted on? No, they <br>needed more allies. They
needed some kind of unified front.....<br><br>The only good news out of
the reports was that a Sol and a Neptune <br>Class ship had come on-line
and was going to be deployed soon-the <br><span style="font-style: italic;">Pantheon</span> and <span style="font-style: italic;">Vanguard</span>, respectfully. But it was the only good news she
<br>could see, unless there was some kind of miraculous plan hiding in the
<br>bottom of the paperwork somewhere. <br><br><span style="font-style: italic;">‘Don't thank me yet</span>', was what Garroway had said. A few hours in the <br>office and she was starting to have a feeling of what he was talking about.<br><br>FCapt Tanya
