== Yorktown, Bridge ==

As the battle quickly unfolded, the Vulcan sitting at the comms console found himself thoroughly engaged. There were both intra-ship and fleet-wide communications to tend to as well as defeating the Nausicaan’s paltry jamming attempts. In addition to all this, the overly sensitive comms module within the Yorktown’s sensor array was picking up bits and pieces of Nausicaan communications. As Savok multitasked, the Vulcan with an unique ear for languages began to piece together patterns in the enemy’s communications.

Though the Yorktown had trembled, the Vulcan was able to his maintain his stiff composure as he swiveled in his chair to face Morgan. “Captain, the Supersabre ‘Ghaeghog,’ classified as Sierra Three, is the command vessel. Neutralize Sierra Three and you will have the Nausicaan fleet momentarily confused, forcing them to act individually until such time a leader can take over. During this moment, I can also effect phony communications from various Nausicaan vessels and add to the confusion.”

"Find us that ship." Morgan threw over to the science station. "As soon as we have its location, send the info to the others in delta." Turning about to Tactical, "Cameron clear us path. Java I want us there in one piece."

“The Shenandoah’s taken out one of the Supersabres…” Boyle called out, he scanned the power signatures from the rest of the Nausicaan fleet, “I have a likely candidate off the port side…”

Nat replied, "Aye ma'am." He then began targeting the nearest Nausi ships and blasted away with torpedoes and pulse cannon fire."

The ship shuddered as if to underline the Captain's statement. Da'nak sat transfixed to his instruments, his antennae darting back and forth as he analyzed the various inputs and affected course changes. "No worries Captain, we'll make it. The day those spike-faced lizard men can out fly an Andorian is the day I start drinking herbal tea."

The Yorktown rocked hard to port as Da'nak avoided a particularly large piece of debris. The proximity sensors were flashing bright red as the weapons fire melded together with the husks of half-exploded vessels. The Andorian strained his concentration as he processed at the flashes and beeps. Suddenly his antennae shot straight up on his head. "Nat! Fighter group incoming on our three O'clock."

Nat replied, "I'm on them Java." He aimed their pulse cannons towards three o'clock and fired. Two fighters exploded almost immediately.

The remaining three fighters split wide attacking the Yorktown at different angles. Da'nak jigged left to avoid a burst of disruptor fire from one, but the ship shuddered as a second burst slammed into her starboard side. The helmsman's breath whistled through his teeth. "You might want to put a fire under that kettle just in case, this could be close. Estimate clear firing solution to the Supersabre in 7 point 3 seconds. I'll get you the best shot I can, but our little friends aren't going to make it easy."

Boyle adjusted the EM scanners to compensate for the background explosions from the rest of the fleet, “Nausicaan… big one dead ahead…” he spoke up still staring at his sensors. He almost regretted his choice of words as the ship rocked from another barrage, “they’re firing weapons…”

Without turning from his console, Savok spoke calmly despite the sudden jarring. “The ‘Ghaeghog’ is issuing command orders,” he remarked, easily encrypting the communications from the Supersabre now on a direct approach to the Yorktown. “The commander of the ‘Ghaeghog’ is concerned about the lack of shielding on the port ventral side and is directing the remaining fighters in our present sector to draw the Yorktown’s away. Consequently, the ‘Ghaeghog‘ will be breaking low to our starboard.”

"Java swing us around." Yorktown was more maneuverable and had the fire power. "Nat hit it hard. When they swung around they would take them out.

“Anytime now Nat…” Boyle continued looking up from his console for the first time.

Nat smiled and fired torpedoes at the Nausis exposed belly. He said, "Torpedoes away." With their weakened shields, the Yorktown's torpedoes should do considerable damage.

Da'nak keyed the thrusters hard, banking away from the wounded vessel and spinning around for another pass. The alarms from the inertial dampers blared as he pushed the Yorktown to it's limit. "Captain, I'm reading two more hostiles inbound on heading one seven mark three and three two mark six.. Sensors read them as cruiser- type vessels. They're going to try and box us in, to limit out maneuverability." The Yorktown shook again under another barrage from the fighters. They were going to have to be dealt with soon or they would pick them apart. "Nat... firing vector on the Ghaeghog in two point four seconds."

The torpedoes hit and Nat replied, "Firing the pulse cannons Java. This should take them out if the torpedoes don't."

On the viewscreen explosions could be seen taking place within the structure of the Supersaber. A few more shots and it would blow.

Morgan glanced down at the screen on the arm of the chair getting a visual of the incoming cruisers. With the way the Lady was swinging around as they attacked the Supersaber one of the cruisers would end up aft. "Java full forward thrusters. When the cruiser brakes behind brake us hard the other way." Hopefully the incoming cruiser would not care to have nacelles in the face and move.

"Aye Captain. Full forward thrusters." The Andorian looked up at the image of the huge vessel in front of them listing to port. Another explosion rocked the crippled hulk, sending shining streamers of metal off into the void. Just then, Da'nak was thrown hard into the instrument panel." We're taking fire from the cruisers Captain. The polarization must be taking a beating."

Morgan looked at the data on the panel on her chair. "She'll hold. Just a few more seconds."

The blue helmsman refocused his attention back to his panel."One cruiser has veered off, but the other is sticking to us faster than glue, and the fighters are still picking at us." Da'nak's teeth ground together as he analyzed the situation, finally a solution came to him. He keyed the thrusters and pushed the flight control forward. The wounded Supersabre loomed larger on the viewscreen. "Nat, can you hit that thing again? I'm going to bring us in close. Then others won't be able to fire at us without risking a shot hitting their flagship." The Andorian held his breath as another volley rocked the Yorktown, sending sparks cascading from the ceiling. "Somebody might want to see if engineering can throw some more power into the bow hull polarization... and strap in, this isn't going to be pretty."

Savok was fighting his annoyance of the Andorian’s use of Terran colloquialisms. And there was nothing wrong with herbal tea, the Vulcan mused to himself. “The Ghaeghog is ordering immediate support,” he intoned flatly.

Nat replied, "I'm on it Java." He fired another salvo of torpedoes, followed by a blast from the phase cannon.

tbc
~~~
Captain Rece Morgan
Commanding Officer
NX-05 Yorktown: The Fighting Lady
