<P class=MsoNormal><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">“Stile she’s started

Harris’ face as he franticly tried to control the bleeding through direct
pressure.<O></O></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">“Alright medical teams this
is what you’ve trained for,” Corbett yelled out as he made his way over to
Harris’ patient. “Old style hand sutures until we get the high tech ones back
on line. Nothing fancy, straight stitching, unless you got an area that can’t
take the tension then call either Jimmy or me to assist.”<O></O></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">Bright red blood seeped from
under Harris’ hands. The pressure he exerted helped, but the wound was to o
deep and the move to sickbay had caused the artery to spontaneously rupture.
“Stile it’s the femoral artery.”<O></O></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">“Frank,” Corbett yelled to
his other medic Frank Merrick. “Throw me one of the straps from the imager

<P class=MsoNormal><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">“Here,” Merrick yelled as he
tossed the strap to Corbett.<O></O></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">“Alright Walt,” Corbett
whispered to Harris trying to keep him calm. “I’m going to wrap this around
her upper thigh and pull tight, hopefully this makeshift tourniquet will give
me the few seconds I need. As soon as I pull up on it take it from me and pull
for all your worth.”<O></O></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">“What are you going to do?”
Harris questioned.<O></O></ span></P>
<P class=MsoNormal><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">“Something that hasn’t been
done in probably seventy five years; I’m going to clamp the ends of her
femoral artery and hope to God I can sew it back together in enough time that

turned his head toward his other medic. “Frank grab 2 units of

<P class=MsoNormal><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">“We have less than four

the vessel and began sewing the rupture back together.<O></O></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">“One minute Stile,” Harris

Harris was pale and his arms trembled from the tension as he pulled on the

<P class=MsoNormal><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">Corbett probed and checked

throughout sickbay. Everywhere he looked there were temporary cots and in some
places just blankets thrown down on the ground to allow the wounded a place to
rest. There were so many injured and more than a few that lay with a sheet
covering them. He hated death and took each one as a personal failure. He knew
he couldn’t save everyone; his life had been a testament to that.
